Commissioner Trudie Infantini, taxpayer advocate and Brevard County Watchdog, is running for a second term on the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners. Trudie is known for her no-nonsense approach to reducing spending and taxes.
In 2008 Trudie campaigned on a platform of restoring fiscal sanity to Brevard County government. During her time as Commissioner she has consistently fought and voted to:
• Prioritize spending in Brevard County.
• Reduce overlapping costs between cities and Brevard County.
• Eliminate the waste in the Brevard County budget so the residents will have the services and infrastructure needed.
• Make the information Brevard County Commissioners vote on available to residents so the residents can make informed choices on what meetings they need to attend to make their voices heard.
Here is a letter I sent out in July 2011 to inform the residents of Brevard County. I had hoped the information would generate enough interest that citizens would attend the Budget hearings. Well, attend you did. At least 500 people packed the Commission chambers and overflow rooms.
Dear Brevard County Taxpayers:
In an effort to make you as well-informed as possible I feel the need to share some very important tax related matter.
The budget being presented by the County Manager to the County Commissioners brings an almost 16% tax rate increase to our residents. While the Commissioners are able to claim they are not raising your taxes, due to a legal technicality, rest assured the proposed budget will do just that.
Further, if you currently benefit from the ‘Save our homes’ taxable value, you will see about a 19% increase in your tax bill because the assessed value of your property can increase by up to 3%.
Please attend any one of our budget workshops: July 19th and 20th starting at 9:00 and the July 21st workshop begins at 5:00 P.M., all at the government complex in Viera. Please come share your view on the proposed taxes!
Also, regarding the Economic Development Zone (EDZ), I found out about $3,500,000 in new taxes will go straight to District 1. This is because the new FPL plant will come online in 2013. The value is about $1.1 billion. All this new construction value would go into the EDZ to fund tax incentives for District 1 only. The Commissioners will be voting on this July 12th.

District 3 County Commissioner
